Program Notes

Inspired by a documentary about the early days of the U.S. space program, the piece reflects the process of building a rocket that would launch a satellite into space – from the design of the rocket and satellite, the very slow transport of it from the assembly hangar to the gantry, through the pre-launch final checks, the countdown and lift off, and finally the launch of its long journey outbound toward a far-off destination.
